MARIOS SALMAS

ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON TRAUMA SPECIALIST

Born in 1968.
He graduated from high school of Amfilochia with honors in 1985.
That same year entered the Medical Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
He graduated in July 1991 from the School of Medicine.
He attended the clinical research and educational work of the Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Patras from March 1994 until April 1998 during the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology .
In May 1998 he obtained the specialty of orthopedic surgeon and traumatology .
In October 1997 he received his Ph.D. of the Medical Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences , University of Patras.
In April 1999, he became lecturer in Anatomy of the Medical School of Athens University.
In 2007 he was elected Assistant Professor at the Medical School of Athens, a position he holds until today.
From July 2013 is in parallel as Assistant Professor, member of the First University Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Athens in Attikon Hospital.

He is head of the surgical upper extremity of the First University Orthopaedic Clinic in Attikon Hospital.

EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

During his studies at the Medical Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, he served all the years (6 years) as an Assistant of the Laboratory of Human Descriptive Anatomy.
During this time, he also worked in the preparation and presentation of cadaveric material to students, participated in the research and organizational activities of the Laboratory as well as the teaching of anatomy to students of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and aesthetic anatomy in the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
He also trained and worked in the Department of Electron Microscopy and Optical Microscopy that operated within the Laboratory.
He attended the clinical and educational activities of the Surgical Clinic of the University of LUND, Sweden, under the direction of Prof. Bengman, from 1/7/1990 to 31/7/1990.
At the same time, he attended the interdisciplinary Summer School in the same city in Sweden, under the direction of Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of LUND, Mr.Anders Gustafson.

March 1994 - April 1998 :

He worked at the Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Patras, as a doctor in trainee, participating in the educational and clinical work of the Clinic .
From 27/9/1998 to 02/12/1998, from 02/08/1999 to 06/09/1999 and in 2009 he was trained in the orthopedic clinic of Balgrist - University of Zurich in Switzerland , under the leading professor Christian Gerber, with subject the surgery and arthroscopic repair of the shoulder.
From 10/06/1998 to 23/06/1999, he worked full - time in the IKA clinics of the local health unit of Alexandra. At the same time, he was a surgical research fellow of Apoloneion Infirmary «Medical Center of Athens».
From 1/9/2014 to 02/10/2014 he has been in the orthopedic clinic shoulder department of Massachusetts general hospital , under the leading professor Jon JP Warner, with subject the surgery and arthroscopic repair of the shoulder.

TEACHING

1985 - 1991 : Teaching Assistant of anatomy at the Medical and Dental School of the Aristotle University.
1991 - 1993 : Teaching Assistant of Anatomy and the elective course of Electronics Microscopy Laboratory of Descriptive Anatomy Medical School , Democritus University of Thrace.
1998-1999: He taught Anatomy and Kinesiology at the Interdepartmental Post Graduate Program of Medical Physics, University of Patras
1999 - Today: Teaches Anatomy the students of the Medical School of Athens as Assistant Professor. Also teaches Orthopaedics the students of the Medical School of Athens and residents of Orthopaedic as Assistant Professor.

RESEARCH PROJECT

He participated in the Research Project Implementation of smart intermediaries (Intelligent Agents) in Medical Education. The role of the program was the key link in the structured organization and management of health information embedded in software education in anatomy, kinesiology and Orthopedic upper extremities.
